Research

Research is key when making any form of media piece becauseyou are able to explore your ideas and come up with otherer. One way in which we have begun to research ideas is by creating pintrest boards and looking at different hots that we could use for our music video, because we found this method as a useful way to lay out and display our ideas we then decided to make nother board on pintrest for ideas surrounding costume and hair/make-up. This was helpful when we went on to do our pitch because our audience were able to see the kinds of shots and ideas we had come up with in a more visual way. These are our pintrest boards:

We also then began to look at created examples of the shots that we hope to use in TV and film. One of our main shots will be the same shot rpeated at the beginning and the end of our music video which will be a timlapse of the sunrise and sunset. One TV show which uses this shot well is House of Cards. House of Cards; the netflix original show, is a good example of how timlases of landscapes can be used effectivly in the media.

Explanation of choices made

When choosing to make a music video or a short film we looked at many examples of both we did this to explore our options in order to make a decision. First of all we looked at short films, some of which are a level work, some of which weren't, when watching these short filmswe decided that it wasn`t the right thing to do because we wanted to expand our skills more and we felt that a short film would be crafted in the same way that we made our film opening in Year 12. We then looked at music videos and decided that this was what we wanted to do, we decided to make a music video because music videos are something that appealed more to use than a short film as we felt that we could be more creative and built a better consept to create as there were so many songs that we could use.

Narrative is used to create a meaning in a short film and music video they are created in aims to make a more interesting video.

Narrative in Short Films

Just because short films are typically 4X times shorter than the typical film it does not mean that they are not able to use a complex storyline, in fact they are able to create a shorter storyline that like a feature film it has a beginning, middle and end. A narrative can be anything from simple to complex and is basically the storyline of the video which has a meaning behind, something which carries enigmas that stay with a viewer.

Narrative in Music Videos

In music videos there is sometimes the availability to create a story which stereotypically is following along side the song within the music video. A music video usually includes a lot of enigmas as they are typically an average of 3 to 4 minutes long. However, as time has progressed it is now common for ideas to be 5 minutes or more, these videos usually tell a story and are sometimes described as a cross between a music video and a short film.

Narrative theory
