Genre is one of the key concepts within media and by using certain codes and conventions that are adhearing to a stereotypical genre, it makes a text, now matter what that text may be, recognisable. On another hand creaters will also challenge genres by playing with codes and conventions, this way they are still adhearing to a genre but are adding a different take on the stereotypical texts of a genre. Despite this though, many creaters produce texts which subverb the now common codes and conventions of a typical text of a genre. Directors and artists will do this to aim to create intrest form a new audience that have become somewhat bored of the stereotypes used in every text of a genre.
Genre is has always been a big aspect of a film or a TV show, however in recent years, the genre of music videos has become more evident. This isn why, when creating our music video it was important that we not only made it clear of the genre that we were adhearing to but also what that genre stereotypically does within its text which then lead to decisions on if we were going to challenge these codes and conventions or not. After deciding that the genre of our music video was going to be the same as the genre of the song we began to research further into music videos of the same genre. First of all we looked at the music video which had been created for the song we were using. We saw from this video that the colour palette of black and white was used which we have decided to incorpoate into our music video.
After doing this we went on to research other music videos in the same genre. One of the music videos we looed at was a song by Imagine Dragons, Its Time. This music video was not only heplful for looking at the genre that we were adhearing to in our music video but also for looking at shots that we planed to use.
