Anamatic

This our first anamatic for our music video. We created an anamatic for our video so that we could visualize in more detail where we wanted each different clip. This meant that we could work out the order of different sequences in order to create the best video.

Narrative for our music video

One of the biggest factors when you are creating a music video is the narrative which tells a story within 4 minutes and has a beginning middle and an end of sorts. When we had decided on the song the narrative flowed pretty well because we were able to use some of the lyrics to convert into shots and from that we built our narrative. We have decided to have a main female protagonist who is experiencing heartbreak. Through out the music video we will shot in 4 locations which will all be locations that mean something to our protagonist. Our final shot is what will bring all of our shots together, for this we will have a Ariel shot of a bunch of polaroid's all which will link to moments in the music video to help with the music video.

Copyright Permission Letter

Below is the letter we will send to the artist of the song we will be using within our music.

Dear Copyright Holder,

We are A-Level students and are writing to request your permission to use one of your tracks Sweater Weather by The Neighbourhood.

With your permission to use this track we would use it in our current A-level media studies project, which involves creating a music video to a popular music track, as well as producing an album cover and a magazine advert for the artist.

If we received your permission, this track would only be used in an educational context and be viewed by our media class, teacher and the OCR exam board. It would not be released to a large audience.

The artist and your company would of course be fully recognised throughout pre-production and the final video itself. A copyright notice with wording supplied by you can be included in the records of the project. If this is required, please send full details and we look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Storyboard

This is our storyboard

We have created a storyboard so that we can begin to visualize how we will frame our shots and in what order they will flow in. This will allow us to establish how our music video will flow together. Our storyboard shows not only the type of shots we hope to use but also the locations of which we want to film them in. From this we can begin taking practice shots in order to Gage whether or not our locations that we wish to use are suitable or not.

Pitch

Pitch

One of the next stages in our research and planning was our pitch which we presented yesterday to our peers. We decided to present our ideas in the form of a presentation which we used to visually explain our music video, in our pitch we were able to explain our narrative, talk about the song we have chosen and exactly how we were going to create this music video, in a case of shots and editing techniques. Once we completed our pitch we were given feedback which gave us some ideas when altering our ideas and changing any unseen faults. Below is our pitch.

Doing our pitch

Pitch presented to our peers.

Our pitch is key in creating a good final outcome and the opinion of our peers is also important especially because our peer are the same age as our target audience so it is easier to get feedback that is honest to criticising and praising what we have produced.

Audience Feedback

After presenting our pitch we were given feedback from our peers in which we were able to use to make change our ideas and make them more realistic and achievable. This was our feedback.

Positives
  • Locations appeal to peers
  • Artistic elements
  • Editing on the beat shots
Things to look at
  • Work on narrative
  • Too girly, does not appear to a wide audience
  • Think about colour

From this feedback we were then able to think about these different aspects of our pitch and correct our faults. First of all we looked at our narrative and altered it so that it was more structured and was easier to follow. We then thought about colour as we had mentioned making the entire music video black and white, we have now decided to make all of the flashbacks black and white so that the rest is in colour .

Steve Neale

Steve Neale - Genre Theory

Steve Neale is a theorist who is known for his ideas concerning the concept of genres. His main idea is that individual genres has different codes and conventions that make them recognisable to audiences. Genre is important for any media product as it helps to establish the not only aspects of a film but it also helps to make the film identifiable for others. Having a clear genre also helps to set a primary and secondary audience which producers are able to shape there film around. For example, some of the conventions of a romance film are:

  • It usually is set somewhere which a chance in counter could occur such as the beach or a big city such as New York.
  • The sound track in a film usually reflects the protagonists mode in different scenes.
  • Another convention is the props that are used are typically symbols of love this can be anything from rings to flowers to hearts.
