Evaluation Question 2

How effective is the combination of your main media product and ancillary tasks?

Evaluation Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop of challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The music video we created was a for a song called Sweater Weather by The Neighbourhood. The song, after researching, we decided was Alternative-Indie. This meant that the conventions of the music video would be different than that of a music video that was the genre of pop or rock or classic. We decided after establishing the genre of our music video to look at the common conventions that we wished to adhere to within our own music video. After looking at other music videos of the same genre we began to form a list of conventions. We did this because we wanted for our music video to be recognised as the right genre, to establish the music video as an alternative indie music video.

One of these conventions that we decided to adhere to was the types of framed shots that we used. For example, when filming our protagonist the majority of shots were mid shots or long shots this was because we wanted to make her body language apparent on screen. This allowed us to let our project the protagonists emotions in a different way than just showing her facial expressions. These shots were also that typically used in an alternative - indie music video, one of those music videos being the original video for this song. This hows that me used common conventions from the same genre music video.

This however was not the same throughout our music video because we also aimed to challenge our songs genre by not having anyone in the music video performing at any point in the music video. This was one of the main conventions in a music video in the genre of alternative - indie. We however, decided to challenge this and still have our protagonist appear throughout, the difference being that she was not lip-syncing at all in the video. This begin to help our video to challenge it normal conventions.

Final feedback for our Music video

This was some feed back given to us when we showed our primary audience our finished music video.

This is our finished music video for the song Sweater Weather by The Neighbourhood.

Making shots black and white on photoshop

After deciding to make our music video black and white i then decided to make my digipack and poster also back and white this meant that my media products were all linked and therefore were recognisable to my audience. To make my poster black and white was a simple task.

I first of all opened my chosen image into photoshop i then chose the option black and white from the drop down bar selecting Image then Adjustments and the selecting black and white.

After doing this my image became black and this an a pop up box appears offering me the chance to change the tones of each colour in the original image but in terms of black and white, upon pressing OK my image is now black and white therefore allowing my to beginning to add text to my poster leading to my finished product.

This is the outcome before adding text to the image.

Shot list and the Filming Schedule

One of the most important things in order to create a good media product is a to organise your time carefully in order to make the most of our time to make our music video. To do this we created a list of the shots that we planned on filming and organised them by location before choosing which dates we were going to film on. We choose the dates depending on not only the location but also what the weather was supposed to be like on certain days this was important because we needed the correct weather in order to get the best possible outcome when filming.

Brightening shots on Photoshop

Before adding text I decided that my image was too dark and that i wanted it to be slightly lighter.

To do this i first of all went to Image then Adjustments before selecting brightness and contrast.

I then adjusted the brightness so that the protagonist was still visible but now had more light behind her this gave me a higher quality image for my final poster.
