Deconstruction of music video

Because i am looking at music videos i have decided to look at one music video in particular to look in depth at what i want to use in my music video and what works well in its criteria. I have decided to deconstruct the music video for It's Time - Imagine Dragons. I have chosen this song/music video because it is close in genre of the music video and song that we are using. I will be looking at:

  • Mise-en-Scene
  • Camera
  • Editing - on the beat
  • Sound

The first shot in this music video is a close - up shot of a mid waist which begins to pan out as the shot becomes a long shot which is where the lyrics start, i like this shot because of the way in which its shot as it establishes the mood and genre of the rest of the music video. This is further emphasised by the colours used in the background and clothing all of which are dark tones which gives a darker atmosphere to the video.
The next shot is of 4 men walking across a desert looking space this sets the establishing shot for the setting of the video which matches the atmosphere from the clothing and lighting all of which is dim and dark. You can also see in the shot that there it is only focus on the 4 men, all of who make up Imagine Dragons.
